In 1998 my Wife, Edwina, and I purchased a Cooper Sports Le new, since then we have personalised it.
Before we bought our Cooper Sports I already owned a 1990 RSP Cooper and a 1965 Austin Cooper S.
My Uncle ran local BMC/British Leyland dealership and he originally owned the 1965 Austin Cooper S.
He used it solely for motorsport and took part in many events, including the 1966 Circuit of Ireland rally.
We still own these two Minis and have recently added a 2005 MINI Cooper S to the fold.
My Mother has a 2000 Classic Cooper Sports Se as her everyday car
You could say we have an obsession!
We purchased our Cooper Sports from Charles Hurst Rover Dealership in Dundonald, Belfast in August 1998.
It was sitting in the show room when we called to enquire about buying a new Mini and as soon as I spotted it I knew what it was and that we had to buy it.
It was the only Cooper Sports Le sold new in Northern Ireland and until recently the only one in the country.
From day one we have used the Mini as everyday transport, it lives outside as we do not at present have access to a garage.
After 9 years of ownership we have clocked up over 104,000 miles and visited Ireland, Scotland, England, France and Switzerland.
We have personalised our Mini over the years, while still keeping the original LE features.
The first additions were:
a Janspeed/Downton stainless steel backbox for the exhaust
"Mini" alloy door furniture
"John Cooper" gear knob centre
"Mini" floor mats
Alloy fuel cap
Further additions include:
13" superlites, now swapped to 10" Split Rims
Custom made green leather "John Cooper" Moto-Lita steering wheel
Leather trimed top dash rail, rear pocket liners, rear shelf, fuse box cover and steering coloumn cover
Audioscape door build
centre console
walnut door cappings
body coloured grille
Vita Racing rear screen decal
90 bhp Mini Sport conversion
Mini Sport alloy four pot calipers
custom rear fog light relocation
Cooper Works bonnet badge
Sport 90 rear badge
